CHARLESTON, SC – LOCAL attorney Gary Christmas was voted the new Secretary of the South Carolina Worker’s Compensation Section last month. Christmas will be sworn into the role in July.
The section is a committee of the South Carolina Bar that advises the Bar, the general public, and the state Worker’s Compensation Commission. Their work includes providing education to attorneys and formal opinions that help shape public policy.
Christmas, the co-founder of Christmas Injury Lawyers, is an experienced injury attorney who has focused extensively on representing workers injured on the job.
“It’s an honor to be chosen for this position by my fellow attorneys,” Christmas said. “Our state has come a long way in ensuring the rights of workers and their families to a safe occupational environment and fair compensation for injuries. A great deal of that progress was led by this council.”
Christmas is also the immediate past president of Injured Worker’s Advocates, an advocacy group that fights on behalf of injured workers and their families in South Carolina. He says the two organizations overlap but serve distinct purposes.
“The job of the Worker’s Compensation Section is to improve the legal knowledge of attorneys and decision makers on this crucial field of law,” he said. “Greater understanding of worker’s compensation at the professional level is a win for all the workers in the state.”
Christmas will serve as Secretary for a term of one year.
