When you are on vacation, the last thing you want to think about is being injured in an accident. When an accident happens aboard a cruise ship, it is handled differently than other kinds of accident or personal injury cases. Different laws govern such a situation such as maritime law, international law, admiralty and also contract law. All of these different areas of interest must be taken into consideration when determining the outcome of personal injury lawsuits.
If a passenger is injured as a result of a maritime accident, they must act quickly in order to preserve their legal rights. If a cruise ship passenger is injured during a cruise, usually the passenger must give written notice to the cruise line of their intent to pursue a claim. Passengers who have suffered serious injuries or the surviving family of someone who has been tragically killed while on a cruise may have a year or less from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. That is why having a competent personal injury and accident lawyer working on your side is so important.
