An Anderson County 12-year old girl was injured after the firing of a homemade cannon when she was hit in the head by flying shrapnel.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened in a field across from Denver Downs Farms on Clemson Boulevard on Saturday.
The area is often used for Civil War re-enactment groups. The girl had been watching the canon practice from a distance when the canon malfunctioned while being fired.
Authorities say that the girl was airlifted to Greenville Memorial. A spokesperson with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Offices said no charges will be filed because the incident was an accident.
