A Greenwood sanitation worker has died after having lost his footing and falling from the trash collection truck he was riding on. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. on U.S. Highway 25, north of Greenwood when the victim, Ernest Ray Barksdale, 62 of Greenwood, lost his footing and fell onto the pavement when the driver of the trash truck was turning left on to U.S. Highway 25.
Barksdale was transported to Self Regional Hospital with head trauma. He later died as a result of his injuries. Officials have determined that Barksdaleās death was accidental.
